America’s ToothFairy and American Pharmacists Association Foundation announce partnership

CHARLOTTE, N.C., USA: America’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Oral Health Foundation recently announced a partnership with the American Pharmacists Association Foundation (APhA). America’s ToothFairy will collaborate with APhA Foundation to raise awareness of the issue of untreated oral disease in children. “It is astonishing that one in five children go without dental care,” said Mindy Smith, executive director of the American Pharmacists Association Foundation.

ASDA celebrates 38th anniversary

NEW YORK, N.Y., USA: The American Society of Dental Aesthetics (ASDA) met this year in Baltimore for its 38th annual conference. Founded in 1976, the ASDA is considered the nation’s first esthetic dental society. Others followed, but only after ASDA founder Dr. Irwin Smigel courageously bucked the rigid, monolithic dental organizations of the era. He stimulated the public to want more appealing smiles and teeth, and he encouraged dental professionals to meet this challenge.

ADHA annual session features Music City as lively backdrop

NEW YORK, N.Y. USA: Dental hygienists around the nation are gathering at the Music City Center Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., from June 17 to 20 for the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) at the 92nd Annual Session. According to meeting organizers, ADHA members, guests and exhibitors will come together as a community to reflect on the great strides dental hygiene has made in the past century and to celebrate the limitless possibilities of future advancements in the profession.

Earth Day perspective

Earth Day this year coincided with some of the best walking weather New York City has seen in a very long time. I was lucky enough to have been out of the office and up on an elevated park called The High Line. Once a stretch of railway designed to bring produce and other goods into the city, it is now a diverse landscape of natural beauty. Even on the hottest day, soft breezes flow up from the nearby Hudson River. It took about 10 years from conception to completion.

Studio Dental unveils a 230-square-foot mobile unit

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., USA: Dr. Sara Creighton and Lowell Caulder, co-founders of Studio Dental, hired Los Angeles-based Montalba Architects to design a 26-foot-long mobile dental unit to travel to businesses to offer convenient dentistry. Working with only 230 interior square feet, the architects created a visually spacious interior while creatively packing Studio Dental’s required program, including a sterilization room, waiting area and two operatories.
