CHICAGO, Ill., USA: Dentists treating patients with chronic periodontitis are advised to use scaling and root planing (SRP) as initial treatment, according to new guidelines from the American Dental Association. The guidelines, based on a systematic review and meta-analysis of treatment of periodontitis, were published in the July issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA).

CHICAGO, Ill., USA: In a recent study in the Journal of Periodontology, researchers have found that consumption of alcoholic beverages can have adverse effects on the health of a person’s gums, aggravating existing cases of severe periodontal disease or increasing periodontal disease risk factors.
