BOSTON, Mass., USA: More than 450 companies exhibited their products and services at the 2016 Yankee Dental Congress, held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. For general practitioners and specialists, budding newcomers and seasoned veterans, there was something valuable on the exhibit hall floor for everybody. ‘Navigating Our Future’ at Yankee Dental Congress

BOSTON, Mass., USA: The 2016 Yankee Dental Congress offered up more than 300 courses. The Massachusetts Dental Society, organizer of the meeting, in cooperation with the Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont dental associations, put together an educational program with some of the country’s leading clinicians. The program was designed with the theme of the meeting, “Navigating Our Future,” in mind.

Neutrophil and cancer cell ‘crosstalk’ underlies oral cancer metastasis

An abnormal immune response or “feedback loop” could very well be the underlying cause of metastases in oral cancers, according to Dr. Marco Magalhaes, assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry and lead researcher in a study published in the journal Cancer Immunology Research. Magalhaes has unearthed a significant connection between the inflammatory response of a very specific form of immune cells, neutrophils, and the spread of this deadly disease.

Photon Induced Photoacoustic Streaming

A patient asked for the option to save her teeth that were scheduled for extraction by another dentist. The lower left first and second molars had high mobility (grade 2), were necrotic, with significant probing depths in the buccal aspect. The teeth were diagnosed for endo/perio treatment. Difficulties with this case included complex radicular anatomy, long anatomical measurements (26 and 27 mm respectively for #36 and 37) and the presence of a deep vertical bone loss in the buccal aspect.

Boston in your future: Yankee Dental Congress expects 27,000

BOSTON, Mass., USA: “Navigating Our Future” is the theme of the 2016 Yankee Dental Congress, which bills itself as New England’s largest dental meeting. The event will be held from Jan. 27 to 31 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Yankee is the fifth largest dental meeting in the country and is sponsored by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) in cooperation with the dental associations of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
